For this test shoot, I drew inspiration from shoots that have etched themselves into my brain for years. Shoots in V Magazine, Wonderland, Interview, VOGUE and Dazed that are food for my soul. You can check some of these images out on my Pinterest here!
I love black and white, but colour is my forte and obsession, so this shoot was a lot of fun and a bit of a mixed bag. I like to pre-plan and have solid ideas in my head, but I also like to improvise in the moment so there were some shots I knew I wanted and shots that weren’t planned at all. After a shoot I love seeing what my brain conjured up in an impulsive moment - maybe it was a fabric, a colour, a prop or a dent in a wall that I saw and BOOM there’s a cool shot I never planned on. Those moments are paralleled for my favourite alongside something in my head being exactly as I imagined. Why? Because those moments of improvisations are the pieces of my subconscious and who I am as an artist that reveal themselves and that is just as much a thrill as getting something right on the first go.
I love soft just as much as crisp shots, but like to combine the two where I can. My ultimate goal is to flatter my subject completely (angles and lighting are my forte) and to still capture them in a raw light.
Let me know what you think!
